History of the Boathouse
Around 1901, Henry Melching purchased property on the waterfront in Harbor Springs from the heirs of Captain Robert Roe. Melching’s purchase included a dock, a two story house, and a few slips. He named it the Melching Garage and Boat Works.

Nestled between high wooded bluffs and the deepest, most pristine natural harbor in the Great Lakes, Harbor Springs has been a bustling resort destination since the turn of the twentieth century.
